Never be afraid to express yourself in a unique way. For this shoot, I didn’t have any specific goals except let;s play and see what happens! I kept it simple with a classy style boudoir, sheer , flowy sheer materials, soft lighting, and lots of directing. Directing is key, I guide you. I gently suggest movements and poses that flatter your body and best of all, it takes all the pressure off you to figure out where you need to be in space.
Clearly this is a beautiful and sweet family! I love this timeless look where the “people” are the focus. Each personality can really shine through. Mom chose 17 images to have me print on luxe mat paper, I framed each on cotton board and carefully mounted on archival paper, to cherish forever! As I continue to reflect on this session, I realized that I was able to FREEZE time for this family. These two young ladies will grow up cherishing this morning with their new baby brother!
Why schedule a boudoir photography experience?
Professional hair and makeup, a professional photographer, and the most supporting setting ever equals some of the best portraits of yourself that you will ever see. I often tell my clients to schedule a night out after getting their portraits done, because they will look and feel amazing!
Waiting to lose those perpetual “Last 5, 10, or 15 pounds”? DON’T! I know how to pose you to flatter your individual body type. Embrace who you are right at this moment. Let’s celebrate YOU!
Let’s pan your experience.
Exactly what kind of photos are you hoping to walk away with? Do you find yourself drawn to anonymous images that show off the body? Portraits? Editorial style? Have absolutely no idea? It can be very difficult to articulate your own style, so I don’t ask you to. Instead, I want you to create a Pinterest board titled “ (YOUR NAME) Boudoir”. PIN anything that speaks to you and your style.
Many people as if they can I bring a friend and partner to the shoot? I recommend flying solo for this shoot. I have a small space and I want you to be comfortable and not feel like you have an audience.
Please don’t stress out over wardrobe. Don’t feel the need to run out and buy all new things. I can do a completely versatile and awesome shoot with a single scarf, or white sheets, or a sweater.
The number one wardrobe rule is: Do not bring outfits that you don’t love!
Lingerie is NOT a must for boudoir. Don’t be afraid to get creative! For a boudoir style shoot, a garter belt and thigh high fish nets would go great with a cropped sweater or graphic tee. A gorgeous bra can be paired with a long flowing skirt. Your favorite tank top can be paired with no pants. A sheet can be used for everything. Your 20 year old favorite tee shirt paired with cheeky bottoms will get the job done just perfectly. This is about you and your authentic personality, not about being someone you aren’t.
For beauty or portrait inspired shoots… Structured and/or statement pieces work amazing. Your favorite blazer or jacket, a cocktail dress with an interesting neckline, or just a bodysuit and jeans. I want you to look and feel like yourself (just on your best day). When in doubt, just bring in some of your favorite wardrobe items and let me style them for you. It’s part of the service and I’m happy to do it.
Structured Pieces & Solids look great on camera as well as items with texture, and those that are form fitting to show your figure.
If wearing thigh-highs, buy them 1-2 sizes too big according to the size chart on the back. Buying them in a size that supposedly “fits” according to the package size chart will likely result in the stockings giving a bit of thigh muffin top. We can get them to stay up for each “pose”, or you can wear a garter belt to keep them from slipping.
Have yourself properly fitted for lingerie if you will be wearing it for your session. I recommend going to a local lingerie boutique to have yourself properly fitted.
Avoid tiny busy patterns & neon colors. They are often harsh on-camera and a bit unflattering so try to avoid them.
Try to incorporate a variety of pieces into your wardrobe selections.
Having 5 different bra and panty sets won’t allow for a whole lot of variety in your photos. Rather, have something formal, something casual, something super textured and fun, something more modest, to something black and sleek...you get the idea.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. I love to work with pretty scarves, sheets, white button down shirts, jackets and coats, or anything you love.
Pressed and Pretty. Make sure your wardrobe selections aren’t wrinkled, and cut all the tags off of your sheer items before arriving.
Avoid Props. Props are not needed.
Consider Artistic Nudes For a super easy, low maintenance, and FREE wardrobe option.
TIPS PER BODY TYPE
BRING ON THE FORM-FITTING ITEMS! I love bodysuits, tight dresses, and nothing at all....especially for voluptuous bombshells. I often see curvy women trying to cover up more, but often that has the opposite effect they think it will. Allowing me to pose you so that we can see your figure and celebrate it is the way to go!
Underwires and balconettes are lovely, as well as NO BRA AT ALL (my personal favorite for small chested women) And also, small boobs rock. So please don’t feel the NEED to create extra “oomph” unless it’s something that really concerns you.
If your breasts are a bit lower or “floppier” than you’d like them to be, just be sure to snag a bra with some support, or form fitting bodysuits that will keep them at bay. Posing will play a huge role here, and I’m really good at that.
SURGERY SCARS & STRETCH MARKS
My personal belief is that scars tell a story. Sometimes clients wish they didn’t have to be permanently reminded of that story, and other times, clients embrace their scars and say they’re a part of them. For this reason, I will never edit out a scar or stretch mark unless you specifically requests it and if you do, in fact, request that retouching, I will happily do that at no additional charge. This is a VERY personal topic and it’s not my decision to make.
Thongs tend to make a butt look fuller than full-cover-age bottoms or g-strings. Play around in the mirror with different styles to see what you like best. And don’t worry, I’m a PRO at creating curves in posing where there aren’t any otherwise! I can get a killer booty shot with any level of curve (or lack thereof).
High heels with a THIN heel rather than chunky! Avoid shoes with thick ankle straps or a square toe. Nude shoes naturally elongate the legs.
That’s all in the posing! Form fitting options and nothing at all work great as I pose the heck out of you to make you look and feel bodacious.
Nothing puts a damper on a fun and relaxing photo shoot like feeling rushed or late! You should plan for traffic and arrive about 5 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Use this an opportunity to pamper yourself. Go a few days before your shoot and get a facial, manicure and pedicure! Check out NORABLOOM. This will give you a finished, polished look. Chipped polish can be distracting. I propose keeping your manicure and pedicure light and natural in color.
BRUSH YOUR LIPS
Sounds weird, right?! Dry lips are very hard to fix in post processing. In the days leading up to your photoshoot, use your toothbrush while brushing your teeth to also make a few passes over that pucker of yours. This will help shed dead skin. After that, apply a moisturizing lip balm...I recommend NORABLOOM’S LIP ZING. repeat repeat repeat.
LATHER ON THE LOTION
Supple is key for beautiful skin! Be sure to moisturize twice a day for the week leading up to your shoot. On the day of your shoot, use a non-bronzer illuminizing lotion. If you’re having a hard time finding an illuminizing lotion without color, you can absolutely just go with an oil based lotion like Argan Oil Moisturizer or Coconut Oil Moisturize. PLEASE DO NOT USE tinted lotions or anything with color.
MAKE A PLAYLIST
Optional! Select music that matches the concept of your shoot. I have a bluetooth speaker at the studio to stream your tunes if you bring them!
BRING A SOFT, LIGHT WEIGHT ROBE
Without any undergarments on while getting your make-up done. This will allow for any marks from tight bras, etc even out so they don’t show up in your images
DON’T YOU DARE!
SPRAY TAN BEFORE YOUR SHOOT
I know you think that you look better with a tan, but I assure you, even if you don’t see the streaks and unevenness with your naked eye, the camera will pick them up. You will photograph a lot more tan than you think you look (especially given that my specialty is low-key lighting and black and white imagery), and spray tans will photograph orange in color images. Trust me on this!!
PARTY THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR SHOOT
If you’re nervous, try a bubble bath and a yoga class. Hangovers aren’t sexy.
FORGET TO STRETCH
Many of these poses, while they look effortless, are quite unnatural feeling. Take a few minutes on the morning of your shoot to stretch your arms, legs, hips, and especially your back. People are surprised to see how sore their muscles get after something as silly as a photo shoot, so any extra flexibility you can add by a quick yoga flow will only benefit you.
GET A NEW HAIRCUT / COLOR IMMEDIATELY BEFORE YOUR SHOOT
Now isn’t the time to experiment with a whole new look.
This one’s easy. You don’t have to know how to pose...not even a little bit. I will walk you through every step of the way. I will get into the poses myself and have you mirror me. If we didn’t get it right on the first try, I’ll gently redirect you. It’s not YOUR job to take amazing photos, it’s mine.
I long for the day that women are comfortable in their skin at all stages, for the day that women embrace their wobbly bits and beautiful side creases. That said, I know women well enough to be realistic and understand that many women struggle with self love and no matter how much I tell them they are beautiful, they wish they would have lost just a few more pounds before their session. If that is you, I can assure you, that this ain’t my first rodeo. The majority of the women that come in to see me are working on loving themselves, but struggle. They don’t approve of the size of their thighs, their belly pooch, their dimples. I take women’s feelings very seriously and never want to make anyone uncomfortable. While this is a body positive studio, I will also light and pose you in the most flattering possible way while I shoot you from the best possible angles.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE YOU SHOOT, you can expect to get a confirmation from me, just making sure we are on the same page about your makeup start time, shoot start and end time, and location...and I’ll also ask if you have any last minute questions!
ON THE DAY OF YOUR SHOOT, your hair and makeup will be done by a professional. You should have your face clean and moisturized, and your hair dry and ready to be heat styled when you arrive. Make sure to wear loose-fitting clothing or a lightweight robe while getting makeup done and let us know in advance if you have any skin allergies at all. While you’re getting lovely, I will take a peek at your wardrobe selections and start putting together looks.
ONCE THE SHOOT BEGINS, you can expect me to give you tons of encouragement and direction. I will not expect you to super model pose throughout your shoot.I will show you what to do, and encourage improvising whenever you feel comfortable.
The poses generally aren’t very comfortable and your shoot will give you more of a workout than you anticipate. But I assure you, I know what I’m doing. Get a good stretch the morning of your session, and the evening after your session.
YOUR SHOOT TIME will FLY by. That’s a good thing!! That means it wasn’t awkward or boring. Just the right amount of fun!
AT THE END OF YOUR SHOOT, I will help you pack up your things, I will get you scheduled for your gallery celebration appointment so you know exactly when you’ll be seeing your images.
WITHIN 2 WEEKS of your shoot, you will have your gallery celebration appointment with me so that you can see all of your images and order anything you’d like. You should be prepared to place your full order on the day of your photo gallery celebration and ordering appointment.
AT YOUR GALLERY CELEBRATION appointment, we’ll relax and view your entire collection.. it’s are so much fun.
WITHIN 1 MONTH of your photo reveal appointment, all of your purchased products will be ready for pickup, and sometimes sooner! I will send you an email letting you know when your products are ready for pickup, or with your tracking number if you live out of the area and I am shipping to you.

Have you considered sprucing up your social media profile picture?
The purpose of a headshot is to capture and convey elements of your personality and your brand. You are one-of-a-kind and your headshot should reveal just that. Headshots are not just for actors or models.
Relax and have fun. We turn up the tunes, wiggle, and jiggle! Who knew getting your picture taken could be so enjoyable?
WHAT TO WEAR Simplicity is key. The focus in your headshot should be on you, not your clothing. Busy patterns and large distracting jewelry are a no-no. You know what looks best on you. Choose colors that bring out your eyes and complement your skin tone.
HAIR Booking an appointment with your regular stylist before hand is a good idea. A trim, blow out, or a conditioning treatment can go a long way toward making you feel refreshed, beautiful, and camera ready.
MAKEUP Keep it natural. Do not wear heavy makeup. A headshot can reveal clumps of mascara and poorly applied lip liner. Choose light to medium eyeliners, eye shadows, and lipsticks that are only a shade or two darker than your skin tone. This brings your features out in a subtle way without making it look like you're wearing lots of makeup. Avoid applying heavy foundation, or wearing shiny eye shadows or lip gloss: too much shine is distracting on camera. Skin blemishes, pimples, and even wrinkles can be lightly retouched. It’s not cheating. I promise.
A HEALTHY GLOW Prepare for your headshot by taking care of yourself in the days leading up to your session. Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking. Drink plenty of water a few days before and on the day of your shoot. This will hydrate your skin and help to fill in lines and wrinkles, under eye circles, and give you a healthy glow. Get plenty of sleep the night before so you are rested and ready to go.
NITTY GRITTY The session fee is $175 and the photoshoot will take approximately 30 minutes. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session with your hair, makeup, and outfit choice ready.
I will be shooting black and white on a white background. You will have the option to sit or stand. One to two weeks after your photoshoot, you will receive 5 Hi-Res images for immediate download along with print rights via email.
No cell phone photos are allowed. This is a private session, there is no need for extra friends and family to tag along. No-shows and cancellations with less than a 24 hour notice will not be refunded. However, if you do need to cancel, you will be issued a credit toward your next session.

“I met Holly more recently, and just had the pleasure of working with her for a branding photo shoot. I can NOT say enough good things about my experience with Holly. I am not comfortable in front of a camera, I get stiff and weird, lol. Holly coached me and made it FUN! Chill music, a fan, and lots of laughs had me feeling like a pro in no time flat. I highly recommend Holly for any of your shoot needs, little people or big!” Trisha Williams, The Danby Gathery
